但是500年后桔梗的转世，一个普通的初中少女---日暮戈薇，因为自己身体里的四魂之玉，被妖怪强行拉入食骨之井中，跌入犬夜叉被封印后50年的战国时代，与被封印在御神木上的犬夜叉邂逅，并在迫不得已的情况下解开了少年的封印。在随后与妖怪的战斗中，戈薇蹩脚的箭术射中了四魂之玉，使之散落成碎片。之前犬夜叉因抢夺四魂之玉而被戈薇言灵控制，此时不得不陪伴着戈薇去寻找四处飘落的碎片，寻找四魂碎片的旅程就此开始了,但是桔梗的灵骨却被女鬼里陶所盗，以鬼术使之以复活。戈薇的前世，也就是桔梗的灵魂，在鬼术下回到桔梗体内之后，又被戈薇取回，于是桔梗以骨与土和怨念所形成的身躯，就必须填满死魂才能行动，所以身边还跟随着帮她搜集死魂的死魂虫,看着犬夜叉失魂落魄的样子,戈薇心里很不好受,渐渐地她明白了自己已经在不知不觉中喜欢上了犬夜叉,但是她也明白桔梗在犬夜叉心中的地位,但是只要能和心爱的人在一起,怎样都无所谓了,即使自己不是第一
