“上海”·凯利最有名望。他在旧金山经营着好几间酒吧，只要有水手在他那里醉得不省人事，他就会把这人现金拿走，衣服扒光，扔到船上去。扒光衣服的理由不是你想象的那样，而是因为衣服可以卖钱。

还有一次，“上海”·凯利和“上海鸡”·迪瓦恩闹翻了，凯利竟然把老伙计迪瓦恩也给“上海”了。

有个脾气暴躁的老姑娘，人称“Piggott**”的，也是这个行业的翘楚。如果说凯利的shanghai还是温柔地诱拐，Piggott**的拿手好戏就是赤裸裸的绑架——她喜欢在喝酒的客人后脑勺上来下猛的，然后把他们拖到船上去。

卓别林演过一个名叫《shanghaied》的片子，讲的就是在那个拐骗横行的年代、一个年轻人被拐走的经历，还好本片是以团圆模式结尾。

说到底，shanghai这件事一直都是一帮美国人在干，关上海什么事啊？不管怎么说，凯利才是这个行业里最狠心的，连自己的搭档都舍得卖，应该用他的名字来代表“诱拐”，说这个人被“凯利”了，这样才对吧？

然而躺枪的却是倒霉的shanghai，因为骗子们总是把受害者诱拐到这个遥远的地方。从此之后，shanghai就有了“绑架、诱拐、欺骗”的意义，成为了一个贬义词。

当时美国有个著名作家弗兰克·诺里斯，为这个词写了一个故事——《诱拐：离开加州海岸去冒险的故事》（Shanghaied: A Story of Adventure Off the California Coast）。

后来，根据这段历史，《在旧金山被骗》（Shanghaied in San Francisco）和《绑架水手》（Shanghaiing Sailors）也相继问世。

近些年使用这个词的、为人熟知的例子是《海绵宝宝》第二季33集的上半集，这集的标题是《Shanghaied》，海绵宝宝一行人辛辛苦苦找到飞天魔鬼的宝箱之后，只得到了两个金币的酬劳。

顺便说一句，飞天魔鬼的英文名叫Flying Dutchman——荷兰人被地图炮啦。

世界上这样背锅的其他城市还真不少。比如说芝加哥（Chicago），在法语里是一个印第安语的外来词，意为“狂野的大蒜”。

在德文中“fucking”是“仁慈、善良”的意思，所以德国有个地方就叫fucking。
