苦夏就是指在进入夏季后由于气温升高，出现胃口下降不思饮食，进食量较其他季节明显减少，并伴有低热、身体乏力疲倦、精神不振、工作效率低和体重减轻的现象。

苦夏其实并不是病，不过严重者可以在医生指导下服用维生素C和维生素B，以利于调整植物神经功能，消除苦夏症状。事实上，这也是人夏天消瘦的原因。

夏天，人消瘦了，就需要补充营养，但一定不能吃太多太热的食物，例如羊肉。现代医学认为，夏季炎热的刺激，令神经中枢处于紧张状态，内分泌腺的活动水平也有所改变，引致消化能力不佳，胃口变差，不想进食。

所以，夏天最好多吃一些清淡少油的食物，这样会较易消化，而太过油腻的食物则不适宜，因为食物油腻会令胃液分泌减少，胃部排空减慢。
