第三季最后一集，表面上看，Marshall和Lily是一对幸福夫妻，Ted和Stella订婚，一切都是最好的无人受伤的结局。实际上，第三季的最后一集，埋藏了最大的几个雷点。

第一，第三季终于回收了第一季就埋下的Barney与Robin的伏笔。而到了第三季最后一集，最为人称道的就是Barney终于确信自己爱上了Robin，以及证明自己对Ted的友情。这就正式官宣了本剧的党争——有如《白色相簿2》一般的——Ted、Robin、Barney的三角关系。第一次，结交了最好的朋友（Marshall:)；第一次，有了此生难忘的爱人。这两件事，交织在一起，本该带来双重的喜悦才对，可是，为什么会变成这样呢……

第二，Ted和Stella的感情，似乎在最后一集得到了升华。但是，正如前两季一样，美好的季终爱情结局都禁不住下一季的考验（aka剧情杀）。说一句不算剧透的剧透，Stella并不是The Mother，换言之并不是陪伴Ted走到任意一方人生尽头的The One。至于另一段关系，Barney和Robin的感情，在第四季也没有正式开始的迹象，自然不算是什么好的结果。

接下来开始正文部分，讨论两段感情未能成功或未能开始的原因。

我们知道，Marshall和Lily的订婚破裂，是因为二人各自的职业规划产生分歧，Lily试图重新追寻自己的艺术理想并因此离开纽约放弃感情；Ted和Robin的分手，是因为二人终于意识到彼此的婚恋观与家庭观大相径庭，Ted希望与老婆孩子一起共享都市繁华，Robin追求风风火火潇潇洒洒。总的来说，两段关系的中止，都不是因为单个人的问题，而是因为二人难以进一步磨合的问题。当这些问题不在困扰，例如其中一方放弃、或者其中一种选择因时间发展而消失。

但是Ted和Stella不同。相信大多数观众都和我以及Ted身边的主角团们一样，认为Ted和Stella进展太快，Ted基本上并不十分了解Stella。而这种短时间的快餐式的浪漫，正如二分钟约会一样，并不能长期支撑一段关系修成正果。人际关系，乃至爱情与婚姻，一般而言，都需要长时间的了解（例如Ted和Robin也是过了一年左右才确定关系）与彼此的牺牲与让步。如果说上一段主要是后者出问题的话，这一组关系则是连最基础的了解都不够格，属于人本身就有很多很多的问题。至于后者，Stella一定要建筑师Ted搬到相对乡村的新泽西，却愿意自己和复合的Tony住在纽约市中心，一切尽在不言中。正是因为二人本就有问题，此后也再也没有情感上的藕断丝连。退一步，就算二人当日成功结婚，难道Stella真的能一辈子都不见孩子他爸Tony吗？那么结局恐怕还是一样的。

Barney未能和Robin开始，也是如此。阻碍他做出行动的，固然有朋友关系的现实，但有Ted和Robin珠玉在前，以及二人的性关系在前，这根本就不是一个理由。就第四季剧情来看，归根结底，一是他的精神世界还没有完全确立信奉爱情与实践爱意的信念，二是他的物质世界还没有完全摆脱“一夜情”的生活方式。Ted和Stella的烂尾，主要是因为Stella人不对，而Ted被爱情所蒙蔽没有正视这一点；Barney和Robin的烂头，主要是因为Barney人不对，而他自己依赖于既有路线与现实没有改变这一点。

当我们认识到这一点，我相信，我们对HIMYM的理解和对爱情的认识就可以提到一个新的高度。从片名中也可以看到，HIMYM讲的是一个How I Met Your Mother的故事，也就是如何穿过种种情史与命中注定走到一起的故事。但从本文对前四季的这四段关系中的反思中，我们可以知道，The One固然重要，固然美好，但这个路上有很多阻碍。互有好感不难，甚至互相深爱、长久纠缠都不难，难的是双方在关系中各自做出一些牺牲与让步，共同探索有共识的工作生活未来式；难的是冷静认识对方，坚定改造自己，让对方是正确的人、更让自己是正确的人。前者尚有回旋的余地，毕竟在这个变化很快的功利物欲的现实世界，维持感情上的连结比维持自己可能过于理想化的追求要容易许多；但后者则是相识相知相爱的基础性的工作，不能指望有什么“奇迹”。

Meet the One，也许对方是自在的，但这个过程毫无疑问是自为的。




