　　1985年，Michael Jackson做了一件国际性慈善壮举。当时非洲正闹饥荒，数以万计的儿童正受到饥荒之威胁，而非洲的情况是，人们开始放弃为生存而努力，因为一切的一切似乎都已是徒劳。在这样的背景下，Michael Jackson作为发起人呼吁美国歌手一起灌录歌曲[We Are The World]。

　　Harry Belafonte 和 Kenny Rogers组织执行，Michael Jackson和Lionel Richie写了歌曲，Quincy Jones担任制作，45名当红歌手放下自我，诚意合作，这该算是那年音乐界的一个奇迹了。歌曲收录在USA for Africa的专辑里。

　　1985年7月13日，名为“拯救生命”的大型摇滚乐演唱会在英国伦敦和美国费城同时举行。13日中午，演唱会先在伦敦威姆布莱体育场开幕．72000人出席了开幕式。两小时后，美国费城约翰肯尼迪体育场的音乐会也宣布开始，共有9万人观看了演出。演出一直持续了16个小时，并通过全球通信卫星网络向140多个国家播出了实况，估计总共吸引了近15亿的电视观众。全世界100多位著名摇滚乐歌星参加了这次义演，他们之中有鲍博迪伦、保尔麦卡特尼、布鲁斯斯普林斯廷、蒂娜特纳、艾尔顿约翰、 迈克杰克逊……
