当代爵士乐、跨界爵士乐 木住野佳子目前可以说是日本爵士乐坛中唯一足以与人气女皇大西顺子（Junko Onishi, 1967~;日本女性爵士钢琴手中之翘楚）分庭抗礼的爵士女钢琴家。虽然没有大西顺子所具有的美国柏克莱音乐学院傲人学历，但木住野佳子可是知名爵士乐厂牌GRP在日本唯一的签约艺人，与大西顺子隶属于Bluenote唱片公司的情况可说极为相似。木住野佳子的琴音乐风时而闲适慵懒，时而深情缱绻，总能让人得到心灵的抚慰，可以说是一种典型的当代爵士乐；其抒情温柔、深情款款的曲风，堪称「Bill Evans乐派」在日本的代言人。自认受到Bill Evans与Oscar Peterson影响极深的她，在学习钢琴的过程中，古典与爵士兼修，并且在大二时参加山叶流行音乐大赛，获得「最佳键盘手」大奖。　1987年是她音乐生涯的转折点；木住野佳子为日本**"Hoshizora No Mukou No Kuni"(The Country on the Other Side of The Star)献上她首次的**配乐，且得到极高的评价。她开始在不同的爵士乐场合中演奏，并在1992年成为Takio Ito合奏乐团的一员。这些经验助长了她的音乐历练，使她在1993年能够组成了个人的乐团"Brand New"，演出她柔和ˋ富有旋律和流行性的「当代爵士乐」。因此，从1995年加入GRP并且发行首张专辑「美丽神话」（Fairy Tale），获得Swing Journal的「金碟大赏」肯定以来，陆续又发行了「情深倩影」（Photograph, 1996）、「即兴有约」（Rendez-vous, 1997）、「丽质天生」（You Are So Beautiful, 1998）以及「耶诞心情」（My Little Christmas, 1999）等专辑。在选取标准上，「传统」与「创新」两者并重，是她所依据的原则。她曾经诠释过"Stella by Starlight"、"Someday my Prince will Come"、"Autumn Leaves"以及"April in Paris"等爵士经典名曲，当然也还有她最钟爱的Bill Evans最负盛名的创作曲"Waltz for Debby"；同时也能展现惊人的创作能力，例如，「即兴有约」专辑中就有九首她的自创曲。如此看来，目前正值演艺生涯颠峰期的她，确实可被视为日本爵士钢琴家之代表性人物。
